Private institutes in Jammu and Kashmir have been allowed to raise their transportation fees by 12 percent by a committee for the fixation and regulation of school fees, officials stated on Friday.
The hike in transportation fees was allowed by the committee following complaints about private schools raising their transportation fees rampantly after reopening.
“It is also alleged that private school managements are demanding payment of advance transport fees either for the full session or 50 per cent of the total fees. The schools also seek an undertaking from the parents regarding the advance payment of fees,” the committee stated in an order.
The pending decision of revising the school fees implies private schools can raise their transportation fees only for those having taken the transportation service in the winter zone of October 2019 and in the summer zone of February 2020 by 12 percent.
It was also brought to notice that no private schools shall be able to ask for money from parents or students in lieu of tuition fees or transportation fees in advance. “The practice being illegal and shall not be allowed,” declared the committee. The committee announced that the hike in prices will be operational from the date of reopening of the institutes.
