The government of Punjab has announced closure of schools owing to heavy rainfall in the area. Schools will remain closed till August 26. The education minister of the state, Harjot Singh Bains, has ordered the closure of schools with immediate effect. The order complies to government-run, aided, recognised and private schools in the state. Floods have been reported at various districts in the state. Heavy rains in Punjab has led to the blockage of roads and flooding in low-lying areas of the state. Further the minister was heard saying, “All schools in Punjab will remain closed from August 23 to 26. Following heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, which has created flood-like situation in many areas, it has been decided to shut all schools till August 26 with immediate effect.”
