Personal Recount on election day
Elections give people the opportunity to choose their representatives. On 17th July 2022, our school namely Silveroaks International School arranged an election day where we students had to elect one of the shortlisted candidates as our representative. The purpose of this event was to elect suitable candidates for student government council.
The amazing day started with an assembly. During the assembly, our social teachers elucidated the predominance of elections. After the assembly, we went to our classes and ate a scrumptious breakfast. We couldn’t stop chatting about the person we were going to elect. At around 11:00 am, our class went to the marvelous lawn located in the PYP block to elect the student government for the year 2022. The lawn was huge and I was spellbound by the picturesque of the set-up. We sat on bright coloured benches while we waited for our turn to vote. There were 7 voting counters and each of us were given a counter to vote based on our roll numbers. Learning about Democracy and elections in our social period gave us a broad idea on what categories a contestant should be voted on. After voting, our index finger was painted which represented that we had already casted our vote.
We had a wonderful time on this day and couldn’t stop talking about the person we voted for. We also learnt that it is predominant to choose a leader on the right basis as we are the ones who will be affected if we do not choose the right leader.
