School closures announced in many States amid rising Covid cases

As the country again witnesses the surge in Covid cases, along with the Omicron variant, many state governments have ordered the closure of all educational institutions and schools in their states. Cities and states like Mumbai, Delhi, Punjab, Odisha and West Bengal are witnessing a massive rise in Covid and Omicron cases and have decided to shut all schools and colleges.

Other states like Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka governments too have decided to shut down all schools and colleges up to high school till January 15 and UP increased the night curfew by two hours.

As per the record from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the country recorded 58,097 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours with 2,135 Omicron cases on January 5. Maharashtra is topping the charts with the highest number of Covid and Omicron cases, followed by Delhi and Kerala.

Additionally, the CBSE and ISCE school boards have decided to organize term 2 board exams in March-April, 2022, and the scheduled dates for the board exams will be issued soon. While many other state boards like MP, Maharashtra and Bihar have already announced board exam dates.
