School-on-Wheels: A Noble Initiative for Tribal Students in Odisha

The state’s ST and SC development department’s noble initiative ‘School Sanjog Programme’ to empower tribal students is a positive step towards sustainable learning for all students in the state. An initiative of school on wheels for children, the programme is designed especially for the poor and vulnerable tribal group (PVTG) communities.

The programme will serve approximately 40,000 students of classes I-V, belonging to PVTG communities in Angul, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, and Mayurbhanj. The new innovative learning pedagogy will definitely benefit a continuous learning experience to the tribal students.

Ranjana Chopra, principal secretary, ST and SC development department, states that due to lockdown, the entire education landscape shifted to online learning that denied education to many PVTG students as they cannot afford the expensive smartphones or access to internet.
