It was announced on Tuesday by Odisha government to extend the summer vacation in schools till June 25 due to the prevailing heat wave conditions across the state. PK Mohapatra, the School and Mass Education department Secretary announced it. Including privately run schools, all schools will reopen on June 26, as said by Mohapatra.
By June 19 most of the Odisha schools were scheduled to reopen after the summer vacation. Some of them had already reopened from Monday (June 17). Even during the year 2018, till June 23 the summer vacation was extended and to June 25 it was re-extended further due to scorching heat.
The coastal districts in Odisha are facing high humidity level whereas the acute heat wave continues in the western region of the state. Most of the schools in coastal region were yet to be restored after the cyclone Fani.
On Tuesday only two places in the state recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius. A maximum temperature of 40.6 degree Celsius recorded in Sambalpur and 40.5 degree Celsius in Baripada.
As per the MeT office sources, in state capital Bhubaneswar, the maximum temperature was 36.8 degree Celsius and the relative humidity was 91 percent.
