Bihar government schools are reducing their operating hours from 8 hours to 6 hours. The timings will now be changed from 9 AM to 5 PM to operating from 10 AM to 4 PM. This change aligns with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s pledge to address concerns regarding extended school hours for students.

According to a circular issued on February 20, 2024, by the Director of Secondary Education, Kanhaiya Prasad Srivastava, schools will now operate for six hours daily, from 10 am to 4 pm, effective immediately. This announcement follows Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s assurance in the state assembly to reduce the duration of school hours in government-run schools.

As per the revised timetable, classes will take place from 10 am to 12.50 pm, with a break from 12.50 pm to 1.30 pm, and the remaining four classes will run from 1.30 pm to 4 pm. According to the circular, the reduction of school hours aims to alleviate concerns about lengthy classroom sessions and foster a more balanced educational environment for students statewide.
