Schools are closed today as Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) alerts that monsoon effect can befall on Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
Schools will remain closed today in Maharashtra due to heavy rain, especially in Raigad, Palghar and Chiplun. ‘Red alert’ is issued for Raigad, Chiplun and Palgad, while ‘Orange alert’ is issued for Ratnagiri, Mumbai and Thane in Maharashtra. Students and parents are requested to stay indoors by local authorities as IMD forecasts flood-like situations in several regions. They are advised to be in contact with schools for updates regarding school reopening.
‘Red alerts’ for heavy rain are issued by IMD for many districts in Telangana, such as Kamareddy, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Peddapalli, Siddipet, Mulugu and Karimnagar. Such heavy rain is predicted to be accompanied by stormy winds of 30-40 kmph on Wednesday. An ‘Orange alert’ is also issued for the state till 20th July. So, the local government has declared school closure for today.
Local administration announced schools’ shutdown in many regions of Tamil Nadu due to heavy downpour, waterlogging in certain areas and traffic snarls. Schools in Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Chennai, Tiruvallur and Vellore will be closed for student’s safety. Average rain with thunderstorms will likely be appearing in some places for the next 3 hours. Widespread rainfall has also been recorded in Chennai last night.
Remains of Biparjoy, the cyclonic storm as named by IMD has created depression on central regions of East Rajasthan that is slowly moving towards east-northeast. It seems as maintaining its depression intensity during next 12 hours along with 60 kms towards Tonk’s west-northwest and 60 kms towards Ajmer’s east-southeast.
