Schools in Andra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu are to be shut down due to cyclone Michaung

In response to the Cyclone alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, the district collector has declared holidays for all educational institutions in the NTR district on December 4 and 5. The collector’s directive also indicates that schools may need to make up for these holidays by utilizing upcoming Second Saturdays if there is a deficiency of 220 working academic days.

The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) reported that Cyclone ‘Michaung’ is anticipated to make landfall in the west-central Bay of Bengal, off the south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts, by the forenoon of December 4. In response to this, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 21 teams for rescue and relief operations. These details were shared during the second NCMC meeting chaired by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Sunday. The meeting aimed to assess the preparedness of state governments, as well as central ministries and departments, for the approaching cyclone ‘Michaung’ in the Bay of Bengal.

The Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) provided the committee with an update on the present status of the cyclonic storm ‘Michaung’.

According to the Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), at 4:30 pm on Sunday, the cyclonic storm in the southwest Bay of Bengal had moved northwestwards at a speed of nine kmph over the past six hours. Its current position is near latitude 11.8 degrees North and longitude 82.2 degrees East, approximately 260 km east-southeast of Puducherry, 250 km southeast of Chennai, 380 km south-southeast of Nellore, 490 km south-southeast of Bapatla, and 500 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam, as relayed to the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) by the IMD Director General.
