On June 10th, due to severe heatwave conditions, the Bihar State Education Department declared that all government-run schools would remain closed until June 15. This decision comes in light of the intense heatwave prevailing in the state and the alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has issued a red alert for the northern and southern regions of Bihar until June 14, warning of “severe heatwave” conditions for the next three to four days.
In response to the soaring temperatures, which exceeded 44 degrees Celsius in multiple locations across the state, the department has extended the closure to ensure the safety of students and staff. Teachers have also been granted holidays until June 15 due to the school closures. The IMD’s Patna centre has advised people to remain indoors to avoid heat-related illnesses, as prolonged exposure to the sun poses health risks.
On 10th June, temperatures soared to 45.9 degrees Celsius in Buxar and Bhojpur, with several other locations recording temperatures exceeding 44 degrees Celsius, including Arwal, Dehri, Aurangabad, Bikramganj, Gaya, and Nawada.
