Delhi government’s Directorate of Education released a statement extending the winter holidays for Delhi’s private schools till January 15. There have been severe cold waves in the national capital. Previously, the schools were to reopen on January 9th. The order that was issued on January 8 was anticipated looking at the harsh weather conditions in the city. Visibility also remained low owing to the dense fog that covered the entire city. A minimum temperature of 1.9 degrees Celsius was recorded by Safdarjung weather station on Sunday. This is the second lowest temperature recorded since 2008.
The Delhi government’s notice read, “In continuation to the DOE’s (Directorate of Education earlier circular, all private schools of Delhi are advised to remain close till January 15, 2023, in the wake of cold wave prevailing in Delhi.” The capital city has been struggling with its extreme weather conditions and the grave issue of pollution. Delhites have been suffering extensively due to the poor weather and atmospheric conditions. Students also face risk due to outside exposure especially while attending schools. The circular was hence essential keeping their health in mind.
