Schools in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, will be closed due to severe cold

Atishi Singh, Minister of Education, Government of Delhi, declared on Sunday that all government and private schools in Delhi will be shut for students from Nursery to Class 5 until January 12 due to the ongoing cold weather conditions. Atishi Singh conveyed through a post on X that schools in Delhi will remain closed for students from nursery to Class 5, for the next five days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions.

Following a previous order on Saturday, the Delhi government had extended the winter break until January 10 for government-aided and unaided recognized private schools. However, the government later withdrew this order. The decision to close schools was made in response to the minimum temperature in the city being recorded at 8.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday. In Punjab, a directive has been issued for the closure of all government and private schools from January 8 to January 14.

The Chief Minister of Punjab posted on ‘X’ that considering the intense cold weather, they have decided to observe a holiday from January 8 to January 14 for all government and private schools in Punjab up to class 10. Schools in Noida and Greater Noida for students in Class 8 will be closed until January 14, 2024.

In the adjacent state of Haryana, Chief Minister M L Khattar declared a 15-day winter break that commenced on January 1, 2024, and will conclude on January 15, 2024. As of now, there is no announcement regarding an extension of the winter break.

Similarly, in Rajasthan, all government, non-government-aided, and private schools up to Class 8 will be closed until January 13. In Lucknow, the district administration has declared the closure of schools in the city for students up to Class 8 until January 10 due to a cold wave. However, schools will continue to operate for students in Class 9 to 12 with a revised schedule from 10 am to 3 pm.
