Schools in Punjab will be closed on 9th August that is today due to protests called by Dalit and Christian communities for ongoing conflicts in Manipur. Both parents and students are advised to remain in their houses.
According to reports, both Dalit and Christian communities held press conferences together at Jalandhar’s Press Club and declared state wide bandh by forming Manipur Insaaf Morcha.
Surjit Thapar, President of Manipur Insaaf Morcha commented that this protest will be conducted from 9 am to 5 pm. Both communities will be conducting this state wide bandh for drawing attention towards problems going on in Manipur.
Thus, for the safety of the students as well as staff, the Punjab government has taken the decision to announce holidays in schools for students. This decision seems to prevent any unexpected occurrences on roads during the protest.
All schools will be closed based on the orders. Both parents and students should be aware about it and for more updates, stay in contact with schools.
