On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Brainfeed took the opportunity to recognize the efforts of twenty exceptional women leaders in the field of education. We featured them in our cover story “Women Edupreneurs” of March 2023 edition of the Brainfeed Magazine. These women leaders focused and strived for creating a positive ecosystem at their workplace that helped other women in contributing to their fullest and ushering in the much needed change. Each one of these women educational entrepreneurs shared what it took them to successfully complete their entrepreneurial journey during which they have explored and found new identities for themselves and other women working with them.

In the educational sector, especially in urban set-ups, we see a lot of women. They tend to be more compassionate and caring towards younger children and hence, most schools consciously hire women employees. In today’s time, we see most teachers and support staff are women. In our schools as well we have hired many women employees for their calm and understanding nature.

As far as schools are concerned, women are preferred and have proven themselves beyond doubt in leadership. Education sector is one example where we see a great deal of acceptance of women and the treatment of equality is being practised.

Not just in the sense of employment, even in the classroom, there are no disparities. Inclusive education in the truest sense is the norm. Today’s schools and colleges constantly try to establish an equal space for both genders. Young girls are motivated in the classroom to achieve greater things by engaging them in various curriculums- academics, sports and arts. Equality is best practised in a conscious classroom constantly engaging men and women in similar activities and shying away from any disparities.

Beyond the idea of equality, we also are witnessing progress in women’s achievement. We do find girls in general are doing better. Nowadays, we find most exam toppers across the country are women. Women are doing well, they are working hard and they have it in them to achieve big. They are thriving more and more to groom and educate themselves and reach out for excellence.

We are constantly witnessing women taking the lead and coming up in front and the change is happening. In fact, with numerous women freedom fighters, scientists, educationists from the past for examples, we need to realise that women have been achievers from the beginning. So it is not something new, women achievers have always been there. It’s our perspective that matter.

The key to creating successful women is to encourage them and make no differentiation right from a very young age. If one encourages them and does not show the difference, they grow up in an environment where they consider themselves equal. In school, girls and boys should grow up as friends, climb the same steps without differences.

In the Gitanjali Group of Schools, with an almost equal number of students from both genders, we create an environment where there are no disparities. We consciously invite women achievers as guests to our schools which make our students realise that women have a place in society, they are achievers and they need to be respected.

We also encourage our girl students to take part in sports; one of our girl students is a state level cricketer. We have made it a habit of encouraging our girl students to prosper and not fall prey to any disparities. Not just girls, but boys too are subjected to an environment of equality because I truly believe, if they grow with the practice of equality, they are going to continue the practice for the rest of their lives.

We consciously invite women achievers as guests to our schools which make our students realize that women have a place in society, they are achievers and they need to be respected.
