Significance of ‘International Education Day’ globally

by Subeditor1

Every year ‘International Education Day’ is celebrated on January 24 to indicate the importance of education in uplifting the masses worldwide, their growth in parallel to a nation’s development. The theme for this year’s ‘International Education Day’ is ‘Changing Course, Transforming Education’, as the world celebrates the fourth year of this important day.

In December 2018, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) decided to designate a day that honours the significance of education globally in maintaining harmony and progress. And with the support of 59 member states, January 24 was declared to be marked as the ‘International Education Day’ to celebrate the power of knowledge.

The move by the political fraternity showed the support to the educational infrastructure and ensured to provide inclusive, equitable and quality education to all. New York’s UN headquarters, Dubai’s Expo 2022, Harvard University Graduate School of Education and Global Minnesota would be the venues for this year’s celebration.

India too celebrates its own National Education Day every year on November 11 on the occasion of India’s first education minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s birth anniversary who strongly supported the women’s education.
