A Good Person = A Good Teacher

It is believed that a person cannot be both a bad individual and a good teacher at the same time. This highlights the importance of providing opportunities for self-development and training to teachers. It is time for us to go beyond just professional development sessions that only focus on ‘What to teach’. With the emergence of AI-powered content generators like ChatGPT, the focus should now shift to ‘How to teach’ amid the digital explosion and abundance of information. We at Indus Altum, strongly believe that only an empowered teacher can empower the students. To this end, Indus Altum International School has developed a powerful self-development module for its teachers called ‘I Discover’.

“I Discover” is a program that focuses on the self-development of each teacher at IAIS. The course aims to help learners understand the importance of stepping out of their comfort zones and creating a strict routine in life to experience all the greatness that life has to offer. Additionally, the program helps learners find meaning in their actions, thoughts, and words, which ultimately determine the quality of their lives. Once they unlock their potential as an individual they are ready to unlock the potentials of the students that they are responsible for.

The ‘I Discover’ course has several objectives. Firstly, it aims to help teachers find meaning in their work and focus on happiness through self-transcending values such as love, empathy, discipline, and respect. These are the values that Indus Altum advocates. Secondly, it helps teachers with goal-setting processes and emphasizes the importance of contextual and conceptual understanding in both teaching and life. Additionally, the course encourages teachers to believe in the power of applying knowledge and teaches students how to think rather than what to think.

Indus Altum believes that the purpose of a teacher is to not only teach a subject but also to transform themselves and the students, which will ultimately have a positive impact on their students. We call it ‘Teach the Child and Not the Subject Alone’. Our program, I Discover, is designed to achieve this goal by helping teachers develop a well-rounded approach to teaching. We strongly believe that when a teacher transforms, he/she can transform the students as well.
