by admin

The decision to re-open schools on Tuesday in Assam is still in lurch as the State has again started witnessing a menace of increasing covid cases. The health department is closely monitoring the situation in the several districts of the state to ensure that the positivity caseload of infections does not exceed the 2% limit, which is set as the maximum limit to open the elementary schools in the state.

Previously, the education department of the state has announced in its order that if the caseload of infections shows an upward trajectory, the state authorities and administration are obliged to shut the educational institutes in the affected districts.

As per the reports from health officials, Dima Hasao, the hill district in Assam has been witnessing a growth in positivity rate at 2.30%, whereas several other districts are under close monitoring. The exact positivity rate in the region cannot be traced because of the low testing and only 21 positive cases are found from 913 tests done so far.

Furthermore, the health department stated that the region is constantly showing surge in infections because of the inability to conduct tests in the difficult area and the cases have risen post Durga Puja celebrations due to fewer tests.

The violation of Covid appropriate behavior in several big districts like Golaghat and Barpeta might cause the educational institutions to shut down due to the increasing number in cases. Moreover, the other districts Kamrup (Metro) and Kamrup shows positivity rate of 1.10 and 1.15%, respectively.

The state education agency is gearing up the protocols to ensure the safe return of around 50 lakh children to schools from class I to VIII. Also, class XI that were supposed to resume classes from Tuesday after a long shutdown since April end due to surge in Covid cases.

The state authorities ensured that school premises are well sanitized and cleaned to bring back students of elementary school safely. The education department also announced to hold classes three days a week, physical attendance to be voluntary and the class strength should not exceed 30 students.
