In response to growing demand from parents, the Telangana Government decided to introduce pre-primary classes in Government schools. Telangana Education Commission headed by Retd IAS Akunuri Murali recommended establishing pre-school sections (Nursery, LKG and UKG) in government schools.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that his government is planning to introduce Nursery, LKG, and UKG classes in government schools. The move aims to provide quality pre-primary education to underprivileged children and reduce the shift of students to private institutions, he said.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Young India Police School in Hyderabad on Thursday, Revanth emphasized that the pre-schools initiative would improve early childhood education and help retain students within the government education system.
As part of the proposal, the government is considering free transportation, breakfast, lunch, and evening snacks for children attending these pre-schools.
Highlighting disparities in the current system, the CM noted that government schools enroll students from age five, whereas private institutions start from age three, putting public schools at a disadvantage.
Currently, 18.5 lakh students study in 29,500 government schools, compared to 36 lakh students in 11,500 private schools. Reddy also underlined that the qualifications of government school teachers are superior to their private counterparts, reinforcing the potential impact of this initiative.
