In a landmark partnership aimed at improving learner outcomes, the International Baccalaureate (IB) has embarked on a collaboration with the Department of School Education in Andhra Pradesh. This unique partnership aims to implement transformative reforms aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, designed to open up enhanced educational avenues for young people. The cooperation agreement signifies a stride towards the shared goals of making quality education accessible to all in Andhra Pradesh and underscores the IB’s unwavering commitment to the learners of India, where the IB has been established since 1976.
The agreement will see the IB work with The Government of Andhra Pradesh to co-create a roadmap for education development in the State; an in-depth needs assessment will ensure that the roadmap is created with the local context of schools across Andhra Pradesh at its heart. The project will explore the possibility of affiliating schools in Andhra Pradesh with the IB, fortifying the capabilities of educators through intensive training and developing a collaborative certification process at the board level for 10th and 12th-grade students.
IB education programmes are closely aligned to the ambitions of The Government of Andhra Pradesh providing holistic curriculum frameworks utilising inquiry-based methods, and child-centred learning and teaching. IB education programmes cater to learners aged 3-19 and equip them with future-ready skills. These programmes nurture an inquisitive mindset, cultivate a passion for learning, and equip students to excel in their careers while leading meaningful lives. The IB’s curriculum is not only highly regarded in India but also commands recognition from esteemed higher education institutions on a global scale.
Mr. Olli-Pekka Heinonen, Director General at the IB said; “Leveraging decades of international experience in delivering learner-centric, rigorous international education, the IB is uniquely poised to support governmental and local education boards’ endeavours for educational transformation. We are thrilled to embark on this partnership with The Government of Andhra Pradesh widening access to top-tier education for all young learners and developing capabilities for educators in India. Our shared values and combined expertise will allow us to provide young people with an education that enables them to flourish.”
This impactful partnership between the International Baccalaureate and The Government of Andhra Pradesh heralds a transformative era in education for the State, and represents an extension of the IB’s innovative work around the world. With over half a century’s worth of experience, knowledge and development of capabilities in managing and implementing educational transformation at a systemic level, the IB is uniquely positioned to explore a range of new partnerships with organisations who share our ambition, our international approach and our value-driven culture to increase access to high-quality education for all young people, regardless of the circumstances into which they were born.
