The Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Saturday sanctioned the establishment of 21 Sainik Schools in collaboration with private schools, NGO’s and state governments. The MoD plans to establish 100 such schools across the country in a partnership model. The new academic session will commence from the first week of May.
“The objective behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of setting up 100 new Sainik Schools is to provide quality education to students in tune with the National Education Policy and give them better career opportunities, including in the Armed Forces. It also gives an opportunity to the private sector to work hand-in-hand with the government towards nation building,” the press release from the MoD stated.
Unlike the current setup, where the existing Sainik Schools are all residential, seven of the upcoming Sainik Schools will be day schools, while the rest will be residential in nature. The Sainik Schools will be affiliated to their respective boards, but it will work under the supervision of the ‘Sainik Schools Society’. The students and teachers will have to follow the rules and regulations prescribed by this society itself. “In addition to their regular affiliated board curriculum, they will impart education of Academic Plus curriculum to students,” a press release stated.
Forty percent of the admission to class 6 will depend on the students qualifying the All-India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE) through e-counselling by the NTA while the rest of the 60 percent will be students from the same schools, willing to take admission to their schools under the vertical of ‘New Sainik Schools’ through a qualifying test. A detailed notification will be issued regarding the same.
Students, who have passed the AISSEE-2022 exams, have been notified about the establishments. Student’s seeking counselling are advised to go to the official website sainikschool.ncog.gov.in. and check out the notification regarding the same. Student’s already enrolled in the new Sainik Schools but seeking admission in the new establishments, will have to appear for a qualifying test.
The portal for students seeking admission in the new Sainik Schools in the next round will reopen in the first week of April.
