Odisha’s government declared an increase in wages for temporary instructors and the regularization of services for those who cleared the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET). This decision, made on March 1, 2024, raises the remuneration of temporary teachers, or ‘Gana Sikshyaks’, to Rs 10,000 monthly from the previous Rs 7,000.

According to the announcement by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the services of Gana Sikshyaks, upon passing the Odisha Teachers Eligibility Test (OTET), will be regularized, and they will assume the role of assistant teachers in schools. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, the decision will positively impact a total of 12,113 Gana Sikshyaks across the state. Additionally, assistant teachers who have passed the OTET and are currently not receiving annual increments will now be entitled to yearly increments. This decision will benefit a total of 9,520 such teachers.
