Educational landscape has undergone complete change post-pandemic. At Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar, the concept of game-based learning and project-based learning has been introduced wherein teachers act as facilitators. School clubs have ensured that students actively take part in co-curricular activities. Moreover, students get opportunities to take on leadership roles from a very young age. This has inculcated in them the spirit of team work and harmony.
We introduced the Environmental, Sustainable and Green Club to sensitize children regarding environmental crisis. Students are made aware about climate change and participate in activities organized by Climate Science Club. Access to videos, e-books etc. are provided to children. The Climate Science Club sensitizes children on key concerns such as food wastage, carbon dioxide removal, clean energy and many more.
Model United Bharat was another initiative which enhanced leadership skills among students. The event exposed children to real world problems and helped them hone skills such as diplomacy, negotiation, critical thinking, public speaking, writing and research. The ‘City of My Dreams’ project gave students a chance to provide concrete solutions to problems that hindered the growth of their city.
Learning definitely becomes more conducive when it is combined with adventure and fun. Hence, we have CORDUROY & DODO – two teddy bears who are friends to our students. Children take turns to take them home and spend a day full of adventure. This helps them learn values such as ‘sharing is caring’. The practice also enhances communication skills of the students who narrate how they have spent time with these characters.
We organize community services like ‘Fist full of love’ wherein children collect articles and distribute them among the underprivileged. Students visit orphanages, blind schools and old age homes. Many people think that knowledge leads to power but it is one’s character that does all the wonders. The purpose of education must not be to teach how to earn a living but to teach real virtues.
