Tier-I Indian institutes seek to bridge the AI Talent Gap


Prominent Indian institutions have taken a step forward to train students and professionals in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. They are providing immediate needs of algorithms, mathematical insights and practical experiences as well.

The following 5 have incorporated AI courses in their curriculum:

IIT Madras: Departments of Computer Science and Engineering have shifted focus on Interdisciplinary Dual Degree in Data Science. This also includes a course on Robotics. Any B.Tech student with a CGPA mark above 8.0 can enroll for this course at the end of their 5th semester. The course tenure is of 5 years.

IIT Hyderabad: Department of Liberal Arts has initiated an undergraduate course on Artificial Intelligence and Humanity. This will be an additional opportunity along with the major course where students can take team-based projects to exploit the technical dimensions of AI. This is a 12-credit course only allowed for students in second year or above.

IIT Kharagpur: Their Centre for Artificial Intelligence is offering certificate programme on Foundations on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The centre has been launched recently and they plan to start the programme from March 2019. A 16 one-credit module programme targeting budding developers as well as professionals which will be provided at centres Bengaluru, Kolkata and Kharagpur campus.

IIT Ropar: Their department of Computer Science and Engineering is offering an elective course for one year on Artificial Intelligence where they talk about the basics and AI technologies used for games, logic, reasoning and planning.

IIT Roorkee: Their Computer Science and Engineering department launched several undergraduate programmes like an introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Data Mining, Big data analytics, and Advanced Data Mining. The duration of each programme is one semester.

The nation is moving forward along with the advent of future technologies and moulding of the courses is a necessary step to walk hand in hand with the rapid change.
