In order to curb the spread of communicable diseases like Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya; the Uttar Pradesh Government has released a few guidelines for schools in the state. Circulars have been given to basic education officers of all districts to follow the measures in their own specific districts. Each school will be appointing a teacher as a nodal officer to oversee the implementation of the policy.
Some of the guidelines that the state government has come up with are as follows:
On-Site Testing of Students with Symptoms
If many students in a school shows symptoms of fever, the school will arrange for an on-site testing with the help of a supervised doctor. Apart from this, students will have to follow a certain dress code. The directive has been issued by the Department of Education. Dr. Mahendra Dev, Director of Education has conveyed all the instructions to Basic Education Officers (BSAs).
Prevention of Water Logging and Ensuring Hygiene
To prevent the spread of dengue, chikungunya and malaria; the UP government has instructed departments to ensure that no water accumulation takes place within or around school premises. Schools have been directed to maintain cleanliness, conduct fogging activities; by working together with local authorities to minimize the spread of the disease.
Appointment of Nodal Teachers
Basic Education Officers will appoint a nodal teacher in every school. These teachers will be responsible for educating students about the communicable diseases and encourage students to also follow the dress code. They will also address the water logging issues and ensure that the mosquito control measures are properly implemented.
Engagement of Parents in Awareness Campaigns
Director of Basic Education, Dr. Mahendra Dev, has issued a circular for all District Basic Education Officers. It focuses on active participation of the Basic Education Department in the state’s communicable disease control campaign that will be commencing from October 3.
Private Schools will also conduct these awareness activities. Nodal teachers will create Whatsapp groups to connect with parents and share informative videos with them. Online meetings will be further conducted to educate parents about the disease prevention methods and strategies.
