UP schools to display photos of teachers in classrooms to avoid issues of absenteeism and proxy

by

In order to address the problems of teacher absenteeism and proxy usage in Uttar Pradesh, the state government of UP has implemented a new rule. Now, all public schools must prominently showcase photographs of their teaching staff on the walls. Directives have been issued to all district basic education officers, instructing all teachers, including instructors (‘Anudeshak’) and para teachers (‘Shiksha Mitra’), to adhere to this requirement by displaying their photos in their assigned classrooms.

Moreover, the displays ought to feature detailed information about every teacher, including their academic credentials, date of employment, contact details, assigned class, and areas of expertise. Moreover, any notable accomplishments, such as state or national teaching awards, should be prominently showcased.

The addition of photographs will assist parents in identifying their children’s teachers. This enhanced familiarity will enable parents to raise concerns if a teacher is absent without valid reasons.

Funding for this initiative comes from the Samagra Shiksha allocation, designated for the academic session of 2024-25. Specifically, the government has allocated Rs 7.9 crore for Teaching Learning Materials in primary schools and Rs 3.3 crore for upper primary schools under the Learning Enhancement Programme Remedial Teaching scheme.

A previous directive from the state government on a related issue wasn’t entirely followed. Consequently, a revised order has been issued to ensure full adherence with the directive.

Adding photos will assist parents in recognizing their child’s teachers.
