Flowers have unique and distinct colours solely to attract bees, butterflies and other insects and birds to itself. These animals help plants to pollinate and reproduce. When birds or insects come in close contact to a flower, pollen gets stuck to their bodies. While travelling the pollen gets scattered at various places and plants of the same kind is born. It is also owing to this phenomenon that plants bear fruits.

Different colours in flowers come from different pigments. Colours like white, red, blue, brown, yellow, purple and black is rendered by the pigment, anthocyanin.
