World Wildlife Day

by admin

Wildlife forms an essential part of our lives. It wouldn’t be possible for us to sustain life on Earth if there were no wildlife around us. As much as we depend on animals, they depend on us too. It is important that we respect and look after the welfare of the wildlife present on Earth. With this spirit we celebrate World Wildlife Day every year on 3rd March.

There are numerous animals that have gone extinct, sometimes for our own faults and sometimes not. Change in the climactic pattern has been a biggest reason for the havoc. Humans in such a scenario have to be very much careful with their actions. As a community we have to come together and advocate the cause of animal welfare and conserve our wildlife. The day we truly make this happen is when we celebrate World Wildlife Day in its very essence.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been formulated on this very belief. The term ‘Sustainable Development’ means development without affecting nature. This involves preserving animal and plant species, looking after the welfare of all beings. Animal Rights has been a controversial topic for a very long time and it still is. As we are three months into another year, do we see a lot of changes with regard to our actions?

Only accountability and a responsible approach can change the current scenario. We must understand that the world we have been living in is anthropocentric or human-centric. It is our perception that needs to change first. Animals are never secondary to humans, they should rather be seen as equal to any of us. Their lives matter and that is what we have to understand this World Wildlife Day.
