The newly-appointed vice-chancellor of Delhi University (DU) Mr. Yogesh Singh will start his new office from today, said a varsity official. Yogesh Singh was earlier serving as the Delhi Technological University’s vice-chancellor. Lt Governor Anil Baijal has approved the proposal recommended by the Chief Minister for relieving Yogesh Singh from the post of Vice -Chancellor of DTU to enable him to join as the present DU’s VC,” an official order issued by the Delhi government’s Department of Training and Technical Education stated on Wednesday.
Mr.Yogesh Singh, who will be DU”s 23rd vice chancellor now, will succeed Mr. Yogesh Tyagi, who was unfortunately suspended last October on allegations of irregularities, discrepancies and dereliction of his duty.
Sadly, Mr. Yogesh Tyagi was also the first VC in the history of Delhi University to go through such an ugly phase of life. Furthermore, Pro vice-chancellor Mr. P C Joshi too has been holding charge of the top post since then.
Initially, Mr. Singh was appointed the new vice chancellor of DU in the month of September. Later, Mr. Singh was again appointed as DTU”s vice chancellor for a second term in April this year. Previously, he had served as the Director of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (2014 to 2017) and also as the vice chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (2011 to 2014).
