International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women worldwide. This day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The theme for 2024 is ‘ Invest in women: Accelerate progress’. In recognition of this important occasion, Brainfeed will be highlighting diverse perspectives and insights from women leaders in the education domain.
In this context, we are pleased to present an article below by Ms. Roopal Sagi, Principal & Founder, The Learning Umbrella Preschool, Hyderabad.
“Your voice matters” is the point that I would like to drive across to every woman, every team member, and every friend & acquaintance that I have had the opportunity to interact with. We as women often tend to forget this important point and the voice within us gets underplayed or dismissed. Women of today have been changing the world with their public voices and opinions.
When women speak up, they become role models for younger generations. By witnessing women who are not hesitant to use their voices, young women are inspired to pursue their dreams and aspirations without limitations. Women in leadership positions have a larger role to play to ensure that they create opportunities for other women to thrive. As women thrive, they generate more innovators and creators, leading to their rise, being heard, and paving the way towards a brighter future.
I’m currently leading a team of 50 young women who share the same passion of making it big just like the way I aspire to. When you have like-minded team members with you it is easier to align the personal and work goals. However, the road to leadership isn’t an easy one for a woman. If you have the right support and a path charted, the journey becomes easier.
I urge every leader to be supportive and encourage more women team members to take up leadership roles. Women have indeed won many rights in the workplace. But when we talk about real equality, it’s not only about having a vote. When we talk about the relationship between women and power, having a voice is equally indispensable.
On this occasion of International Women’s Day, we as women must take pride & confidence in our abilities, our points of view, and the power we have to conquer any role given to us. I strongly believe that every woman’s success should be an inspiration to another. Let us break all stereotypes, cheer for each other, and celebrate womanhood!
