Canadian International School to Host 15th Terry Fox Run in Bangalore to Support Cancer Research

by Ranjith Subeditor

Canadian International School (CIS), Bangalore, in collaboration with the Terry Fox Foundation, will host the 15th edition of the Terry Fox Run on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The event will take place at the CIS campus in Yelahanka, with the 5-kilometre route extending around the scenic Manchenahalli Lake before returning to the campus.

The Terry Fox Run is a non-competitive, global charity event dedicated to Canadian cancer research activist Terry Fox, whose Marathon of Hope in 1980 remains a symbol of courage and resilience. The event attracts millions worldwide each year, and Bangalore’s chapter has been proudly hosted by CIS for the past 15 years.

This year, the school aims to raise approximately ₹25 lakhs, with all proceeds directed to cancer research at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, furthering the mission to support cancer research in India.

The run is open to students, parents, teachers, and participants from across the city. Individuals can walk, jog, cycle, skate, or run at their own pace. Registration is free, and supporters are encouraged to donate online to the Terry Fox Foundation or purchase official Terry Fox Run T-shirts to contribute to the cause.

Highlighting the spirit of the initiative, Ms Shweta Sastri, Managing Director of Canadian International School, said, *“This event is a celebration of Terry’s extraordinary legacy and a reaffirmation of CIS’ commitment to the fight against cancer. Each year, we see our community come together with a shared purpose, reminding us that collective action can truly make a lasting impact. Our aim is not only to raise funds but to inspire hope and resilience, just as Terry did.”*

The legacy of Terry Fox continues to inspire millions globally. In 1980, despite losing a leg to cancer, he undertook the Marathon of Hope, running a marathon a day across Canada to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. His determination remains a beacon of courage, motivating communities worldwide to unite in the fight against cancer.
