Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced on September 30 that the state will appoint 11,062 teachers before Dasara. During a ceremony at the State Secretariat, Reddy, alongside Cabinet members and education officials, released the District Selection Committee (DSC) 2024 results.
Over 2.45 lakh candidates appeared for the DSC exams held in July and August, competing for positions such as secondary grade teachers, school assistants, language pundits, and physical education teachers. Certificate verification will be completed by Dasara, with appointment orders distributed on October 9 at LB Stadium, Hyderabad.
In an earlier move, on September 20, the Telangana School Education Department announced a major initiative to reorganize school units and reallocate surplus teachers to address critical staffing issues in government schools. This move came in response to the significant exodus of students from government schools to private institutions and imbalances in teacher distribution across the state.
In 2023 alone, approximately 2.4 lakh students left government schools for private ones, largely due to a lack of teachers. This alarming trend prompted the government to take immediate action. While the state’s overall teacher-to-student ratio stands at 1:17—better than the 1:30 ratio mandated by the Right to Education (RTE) Act—some schools have more teachers than necessary, while others are severely understaffed.
The directive issued on September 20 instructed district collectors to relocate surplus teachers to schools in need by September 28. The goal is to balance teacher distribution and improve the quality of education across primary and high school levels. A report on the progress of this reallocation is to be submitted to the Director of School Education, E.V. Narasimha Reddy.
