DTU about to launch UG Programs with flexible entry and exit options

by

Delhi Technological University (DTU) is set to launch new undergraduate programs with flexible entry and exit options from the 2024-2025 academic year. Additionally, DTU will introduce an MTech by Research program. These new programs will offer multiple entry and exit points, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Furthermore, DTU has introduced five-year integrated BSc and MSc programs in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biotechnology, and economics.

The MTech by Research program aims to enhance the university’s research activities. Unlike regular MTech programs, which consist of three semesters of coursework and a dissertation, the MTech by Research program will be two-thirds research and one-third coursework. Admission to this program will be done as per the basis of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).

This new MTech program will enable students to pursue a PhD more efficiently or decide if a PhD is the right path for them.

Prateek Sharma, Vice Chancellor of DTU said that with MTech by research, the chances of getting placed in consultancies and research programs will improve. Also, there are less chances for these people to shift from technology to management domains.

He added that the syllabus of the new courses aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) and adheres to the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) guidelines for four-year undergraduate programs (FYUP).

The curriculum of the new programs includes sections on artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, data science, machine learning, cybersecurity, disaster management, and clean and green energy.

The new programs are being offered within the existing departments, so there is currently no need to hire additional faculty.  He also said that the already existing faculties will impart the classes of the new courses. With time if a requirement rise is seen, they will start the recruitment process.

The university also plans to establish institutions in other locations. The Vice Chancellor added that many alumni who are in the Middle East are indicating and sharing some interests that they can be helped to build a center there.  However, he noted that this is still in the early stages.

DTU is also looking to collaborate with industries to support labs and centers. The Vice Chancellor also mentioned that they have partnered with industry leaders like Samsung. The university aims to provide research and development support to industries and build a mutually beneficial relationship.

DTU has established five centers of excellence and research: the Center of Excellence in Energy Transition, the Center of Executive Education, the Center of Excellence for Drone Technology, the Center of Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction, and the Center for Community Development and Research.
