Hyderabad is set to host one of India’s most significant education events, the 54th Annual Conference of the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE), from 29 to 31 October. The national conference, themed “Future of School Education in India – Challenges and Opportunities”, will bring together over 70 education boards from across India and abroad to deliberate on reforms in assessment, digital learning, and skill-based education.

The event, organised by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) at its Centre of Excellence, aims to create a collaborative platform for dialogue and innovation in the country’s school education ecosystem. Participants include national boards such as CBSE and CISCE, international boards like Cambridge and the International Baccalaureate, and representatives from Bhutan and Nepal, making it a global knowledge exchange platform.

The Telangana Governor, Jishnu Dev Varma, will inaugurate the three-day conference, while Dr Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, will deliver the valedictory address on 31 October. The event highlights the importance of inter-board collaboration in shaping the future of school education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Key sessions will feature insights from education leaders including Dr Biswajit Saha, Director at CBSE, who will speak on skill education; Dr Indrani Bhaduri, CEO of PARAKH, who will discuss board equivalence and assessment reforms; and Dr Joseph Emmanuel and Dr Bhawna Taragi from CISCE, who will address strategies for enhancing educational quality. Experts from Cambridge, the International Baccalaureate, and the Dayalbagh Educational Institute will also present case studies on innovation and quality improvement in schooling systems.

The final day of the conference will focus on the National Credit Framework, exploring its implications for school-level assessments and progression pathways. The event will conclude with key recommendations for aligning India’s school education system with future-ready learning goals and promoting greater equity and excellence across all boards.
