Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood announced on Monday that government school teachers in the capital will soon undergo specialised training in India’s traditional knowledge systems. The initiative, set to launch in September, will be conducted at two premier institutions — IIT Mandi in Himachal Pradesh and IIT Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
The programme is aimed at equipping educators with insights into Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), including philosophy, Sanskrit, arts, sciences, and classical texts such as the Vedas and Upanishads. Teachers will also learn about Ayurveda, Yoga, and other elements of India’s cultural and intellectual legacy.
In its first phase, 50 teachers from Delhi government schools will be selected and divided into small groups of five. Each group will undergo a 5- to 7-day training module at the designated IITs.
According to Sood, the effort is designed to create a bridge between contemporary education and India’s centuries-old wisdom. “The goal is to help teachers instil in students a deeper understanding and appreciation of their cultural roots,” he said.
