Gujarat CM introduces Rs 1,650 crore scheme to offer financial support to students

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel introduced two initiatives aimed at offering financial support to students in Classes 9 to 12, on Saturday, 9th of March, 2024.  The state budget has allocated Rs 1,650 crore for these schemes.

The “Namo Lakshmi Yogana” will provide Rs 50,000 over four years to girls in Classes 9 to 12. Furthermore, students, both girls and boys, pursuing the science stream in Classes 11 and 12 will receive Rs 25,000 under the “Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana.”

These initiatives are designed to uphold Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedication to advancing girls’ education and fostering the pursuit of science education. The government has stated that these schemes will empower women and youth in Gujarat by promoting education.

From Gyanda High School in Ahmedabad, the schemes were inaugurated with the virtual participation of around 35,000 students and educators. Under the Namo Lakshmi Yojana, girls will receive Rs 500 per month for 10 months each year, along with an additional Rs 10,000 after successfully passing the Class 10 board exam.

Similarly, for students in Classes 11 and 12, the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana will grant Rs 750 per month for 10 months annually, with an extra Rs 15,000 awarded upon clearing the Class 12 board exam. It’s noteworthy that girls pursuing science in Class 11 and 12 will benefit from both schemes, irrespective of their family income.
