In a significant move to improve communication between schools and parents, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced that beginning from next academic session, parents of students in government primary and upper primary schools will receive their children’s results directly on their mobile phones. This decision was taken during an executive committee meeting of Samagra Shiksha, chaired by Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra.
This initiative aims to benefit around 19 million students enrolled in government schools under the Basic Shiksha Parishad. Chief Secretary Mishra highlighted the importance of special campaigns to increase enrollment in Parishad schools and mandated regular surprise inspections to ensure accountability and address negligence.
In the past five years, the Operation Kayakalp initiative has significantly improved school infrastructure and provided appealing learning materials. The current priority is to enhance the quality of education. The committee also gave in-principle approval to introduce smart classes in 3,530 upper primary and composite schools and to establish ICT labs in 1,515 of these schools.
During the meeting, it was noted that Rs 4.36 crore has been approved for the Samagra Shiksha (Secondary) program’s annual action plan for 2024-25 to establish 92 ICT labs and smart classes in government secondary schools. Furthermore, Rs 6.72 crore, provided by the Government of India, has been allocated for creating 280 smart classes. Approval has been given to set up ICT labs in 12 government secondary schools with enrollments of 250 to 700 students at a cost of Rs 6.40 lakh per school. Additionally, ICT labs will be established in 80 schools with enrollments between 100 and 250 students, costing Rs 4.50 lakh per school.
